Riverfront park in downtown Chattanooga. On June 6, 1838, over 1,500 Cherokee departed from here by steamboat and barge during the Trail of Tears removal — the last site of the Cherokee's 61-year occupation of Chattanooga, named for John Ross, later principal chief of the Cherokee Nation.
