A battlefield-anchored day trip to Murfreesboro, about two hours from Soddy-Daisy. Stones River National Battlefield preserves the site of the December 1862 Civil War battle — trails, monuments, a national cemetery, a visitor center with a museum and short film, and it's free. Pair it with Cannonsburgh Village, a reconstructed 1800s pioneer village with log cabins, a schoolhouse and a working gristmill, or the Discovery Center at Murfree Spring, a children's museum with a wetland boardwalk. Check each site's own hours before you go.
